Music and manifestation: Interview with Alex Amor

Alex Amor is a 23 year old singer from Scotland. Here, she discusses with us the challenges and achievements she has faced and what she hopes to achieve within her music career.

Alex was only young when she started music. "My parents would drop me off really early into school so I would go into the piano room and just write songs that were really bad and that no one should hear now." However, this was not for long as she stated she "found it difficult" and "decided to study textile design instead at university and abandon that dream. It was not until I was a bit older that I decided to pursue it and then moved to London after I had graduated."

I asked why she became doubtful of her and transition to an entirely different subject at university in which Alex responded with: "Every being in my body said this is not going to work and it is going to take years and years to pursue. There is no infrastructure in Scotland for the music industry." However, she continues to say, "then there's that one little quiet voice that goes 'yeah but what if?'

In 2021, Alex Amor released her first EP, 'Love Language'. She expresses how she wants her music to "make people to feel less alone and more seen and heard." With that, she wants her tracks to make people "feel empowered, especially as a woman... You feel like men are given grace with a lot of things. With women, we have to be these perfect little girls growing up, and that can be weary.” It is clear with so many female inspirations, she wants to challenge that idea.

This led onto me asking Alex all about her achievements so far being such a new artist. "Probably my first 1 million streams on a song that was really cool. Or when I did my headline show in February and I was really proud of that - just progressing that show and making sure I am a dynamic live performer - which I was not at the start." Even though Alex has achieved so much with her career, it is impressive to see how many goals she continues to have, stating she always 'strives forwards'. "I want to hopefully find my stride on Tiktok and aim for 100k followers on Instagram and Tiktok" and also "really wants people to find my music and resonate with my music on a larger scale."

Alex has a lot of advice for any aspiring artists out there too. "I know it is really cheesy but just keep going, it's really not out of reach if you do a little bit each day and focus on the process." The singer also mentions the importance of finding other activities: "Finding something else that can clear your mind like meditation or running is helpful as creativity requires so much of your brain."

Alex Amor is one to watch as she is growing rapidly each day as an artist. 'Fever Dream' is out now and you can find her @iamalexamor on all socials, with her Spotify linked below.
